Homemade Lip Scrub

Homemade Exfoliating Lip Scrub

Lip scrub is a gentle exfoliant used to soften dry, chapped or peeling lips. Although a variety of effective commercial lip scrubs are on the market, they are specialty products that can be hard on the budget.

1. Homemade Sugar Scrub To make this scrub, use equal amounts of brown sugar and white sugar. (For a 6 oz. jar that equals about 1/4 cup of each.) Then, fill the jar to the top with olive oil. It should cover the sugars and then add an extra half inch of oil. Finally, just add about 1-2 tablespoons of vanilla extract and stir.

2. Lemon Sugar Hand Scrub To make this hand scrub, start by mixing 2 1/2 cups of sugar with 1 cup of extra virgin olive oil. Add 4 tablespoons of lemon juice (or scented essential oils). Mix until it is gritty. This is enough to fill a 12 oz. jar.

3. Homemade Salt Scrub For this scrub, you need to mix 1 1/2 cups of sea salt with 6 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil together. Then cut 3 large lemons in half and squeeze the juice all over the salt mixture. Stir it until it’s well blended. This makes 6 mini salt scrubs. You can store them in the refrigerator for up to a week.

12 Days of DIY: Sugar Lip Scrub

Sugar Lip Scrub

DIY – Sugar Lip Scrub

Welcome to Day 12 of Blisstree’s 12 Days of DIY. Today: sugar lip scrub! Keep an eye out tomorrow for a round-up of all the DIYs we’ve featured during this series,

No more chapped lips. No more scouring the internet for a DIY tutorial for an easy holiday gift. Sound good? Good, because this ridiculously simple sugar lip scrub is the perfect project for the procrastinating gift-giver.

A sugar lip scrub is great to have on hand during the upcoming chilly winter months, as it removes dry chapped skin and also moisturizes your lips. The other two DIYs I’ve shared (body spray and a rice compress) during our DIY series are pretty damn easy, but I think this one takes the cake in terms of simplicity. It’s literally two ingredients, mix, and done. Plus it’s useful, chemical-free, and fun to make.

Homemade Edible Sugar Lip Scrub

MATERIALS:

  •  small jar or container of some kind
  •  sugar
  • coconut oil

As you can see, I used a little tiny jam jar, one of those samples they give you in a basket at a restaurant (but any small container you have, as long as it closes securely, would work). I also used Trader Joe’s Organic Sugar, but any kind is good.

DO IT:

Step 1Assemble your materials.

Step 2. Mix sugar and coconut oil together until it forms a thick, slightly soupy paste.

Step 3. Put in your container.

Aaaaand done. So easy, right? In terms of ratios I used about two teaspoons coconut oil and just under two teaspoons  of sugar to make this, but depending on the size of the container you’re using, you could use less or more. Try it on your lips to make sure it’s scrubby enough but also moisturizing; after using it, your lips should feel smoother but also a little bit slick.

You can also add honey, food coloring, or maybe a couple drops of essential oil to your scrub, but it’s totally effective as is. Make up a large batch and portion it out to give as gifts to your friends, family, coworkers, roommates, anyone.

DIY Lip Scrub For Soft & Supple Lips!

Make Up Tip: Soft, Supple Lips

Supple Lips

If your living in a region where it’s still pretty cold like me, It can be hard transitioning your make-up trends from winter to spring when your lips are chapped and dry. Who wants that cute coral color on top of a flaky pout? The answer to that question is no secret. To get soft and supple lips that is color-ready, try out this lip scrub I have created below. It will rid your lips of any dead skin, as well as help hydrate them in order to preserve your colors. A bonus? All of these ingredients are edible, so it won’t harm you if you manage to get some in your mouth (This recipe is also very sweet… It’s not cheating if it’s an accident, right?).

Easy Lip Care Tips for Soft, Supple Lips

2 Tablespoons Sugar – The sugar in this recipe will be the mechanical exfoliant and abrasiveness you need in order to shed the dead skin and smooth out the surface of your lips. If you have sensitive skin, try using all natural or organic brown sugar; this way, the chemicals will not irritate your lips.

Sugar

1 Teaspoon Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, or Almond Oil – All of these oils are excellent at providing the soft and supple lips with the hydration that they are lacking. Olive and almond oil are both liquid at room temperature, but in order to use coconut oil, you will need to heat it for only a few seconds in the microwave. You can also use all of these oils if you wish, but only use enough of each to add all up to one teaspoon.

olive oil soap1

1 Teaspoon Honey – Honey is an incredible hydrating ingredient, and provides this recipe with the stickiness you’ll need when you’re working with it. Trust me, it’s incredibly annoying when you are trying to apply to solution to your lips and scrub around when it’s just dropping off of your mouth!

honey

This is the basic recipe that I have found that works best with everyone, but can be altered depending on your preferences, needs, and the things you have in your kitchen. Other things you can use include avocados, egg yolk, and much more! Be sure to freely alter this recipe’s ratio, since this is just a rough one that I use. Your mixture should turn out to be a thick paste.

I hope this recipe helps you get soft & supple lips, as well as helps you come up with a couple of ideas on you own!

Hey Sugar Lips

Hey, Sugar Lips {Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Review}

b29b2dd7

Winter have your lips crackin’ like the Sahara? And lipstick just highlights those cracks! Ew!

All you’ll need is: 1 tsp of coconut oil, 1 tsp of raw honey, 1.5 – 2 TB of raw/granulated sugar mixed, and a dash of lemon juice. Don’t worry if you happen to taste it – it’s absolutely DELISH!

c52aef979f4f6ca0

Mix these ingredients together to make a sugary paste. Use a soft bristle toothbrush or finger to dippy-dip into the scrub. Use soft circular motions across your lips. Rinse with water and apply your favorite lip balm afterwards for soft n’ silky lips. Now tell me those aren’t beggin’ to be kissed!

WHY THE CHOICE OF INGREDIENTS? {Here’s your sci lab lesson for the day…}

Coconut Oil = vit E & K, polyphenols are anti aging, & fatty acids that moisturize w/o breakouts

Raw Honey = natural antibacterial, amino acids that moisturize. Raw is better bc it hasn’t lost it’s healing properties.

Raw Sugar = produces glycolic acid/alpha hydroxy which exfoliates & stimulates collagen production – anti aging

Lemon Juice = vit C & citric acid brighten skin, scars, and exfoliates.

PSST!!! Use left overs for an entire facial scrub!

{sound the fire alarm!!!} WARNING: rub at your own risk – I don’t want to get blasted with DIY gone wrong photos bc you went scrub happy. Avoid sun exposure bc of the natural acids in the mask. Any leftovers should be stored in the fridge.

DIY : Peppermint Sugar Lip Scrub

Bold lips have always been my beauty signature. And I’ll let you in on a little secret : the key to owning the look is starting off with a smooth, debris-free canvas.

The Lip Scrub

The solution, I found, is in a tiny pot of lip-smacking deliciousness I call the Peppermint Sugar Lip Scrub. The best part about it? I made it myself. Even better, it took a total of five minutes!
Here is the lazy girl’s answer to a pout worth shouting about.
Lip Scrub

Vaseline Petroleum Jelly : Chemist | Sugar Cubes, mint flavour and food colouring : Local grocer | Bowl, spoon : Kitchen | Jar : Old lip balm

2

After trial and error, I discovered that regular sugar was too chunky and castor sugar was too smooth for a lip scrub. Sugar cubes give you the best gritty texture to really get rid of all the dead skin. Use any heavy object you find to help crush the sugar cubes (I used two cubes)

3

Add about half a teaspoon spoon of Vaseline to the crushed sugar and mix. Add more if you feel the need. This lip scrub isn’t really about specific portions, but going along with what texture you want (how smooth / grainy) and how big your jar is.

4

This step is completely optional. If you don’t want the colour or the strong mint flavour, feel free to avoid it completely.

If you do, be sure to go slow. Add a drop at a time of each and sample as you go along. If you don’t have a dropper, dip a toothpick in the bottle and wait for a drop to form at the end.

5

Mix well with a spoon (Don’t use your fingers unless you want them to be pink for a week after. The food colouring really stains) and add to a lip balm jar.

7

Ta-dah!

Your new lip scrub is easy to tote around, costs close to nothing, is completely edible and barely took any time away from being fabulous!

Combine above ingredients together in a bowl and stir. Once ingredients are mixed apply in circles to lips for 1 minute, remove with a damp cloth. Mix everything together and apply the mixture on your lips. Gently scrub after 5 minutes. It removes dead skin layer and reveals Soft and Smooth Lips. After exfoliating, use some rose water or grind some Fresh Rose Petals and apply the paste and rinse off after 5 minutes. This will make your lips more supple and gently lightens dark lips(caused by smoking and other external factors). Apply sweet almond oil mixed with Rosehip Seed Oil before going to bed to moisturize and nourish your lips.

Mint Lemonade Sugar Lip Scrub Recipe

Mint-Lemonade-Lip-Scrub-RecipeIt is not easy to make a Mint Lemonade Sugar Lip Scrub . The scent blend would need some tweaking and they thought it would be good to help in this fun project. Jordan is getting married in July and she wants to make a Mint Lemonade Sugar Scrub for the out of town guests and still be able to mimic the mint lemonade that will be served at the wedding.

During my testing several of the staff fell in love with this fragrance blend, so I was able to persuade the New Products team to come up with pricing for this yummy blend! I currently have a price of $4.50 for 1 fl oz of the Jordan’s Mint Lemonade blend. We will release this blend shortly, so if you can’t wait you can blend it yourself. You will find out how to make your own Mint Lemonade Sugar Lip Scrub  below.

I wasn’t sure how much of various scents to blend so she called on us to help. Today, I’ll be showing what we made for the scrub.

Mint Lemonade Sugar Lip Scrub Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 16 ozWhite Granulated Sugar
  • 8 oz Grapeseed Oil
  • Lemon Sugar Fragrance Oil
  • Lemon USA Essential Oil
  • Spearmint Essential Oil
  • Container for mixing
  • Scale
  • Spoon
  • Transfer Pipettes
  • Containers and caps
  • .24 ounces of Mint Lemonade Blend (Using the fragrance oil at a 1% rate)

Mint Lemonade Sugar Lip Scrub Instructions

Make Mint Lemonade Fragrance

Blend a fragrance to match her desired scent. Her first idea was Lemon Sugar with a little Spearmint Essential Oil for the mint note. I made a test with 20 drops of Lemon Sugar and 1 drop of Spearmint in a Clear Glass Dram. After I let the blend sit for an hour, I smelled it and decided that we needed to add a sharp Lemon note, because the Lemon Sugar didn’t have the tang we wanted. I added 5 drops of Lemon USA, which is our sharper Lemon Essential Oil. That fixed my Lemon notes, but there was only one person on staff who could pick up a faint mint tone to the blend. I added 1 more drop of Spearmint. I still couldn’t smell mint so I started with a new Clear Glass Dram and added 20 drops of Lemon Sugar, 5 drops of Lemon USA, and 4 drops of Spearmint. The mint note was stronger and I could finally smell the mint. This blend was very polite and I thought it was very good. I still had to go back to the drawing board to see if 8 drops of Spearmint would overpower the Lemon or not. I got a new Clear Glass Dram and tested again! I added 20 drops of Lemon Sugar, 5 drops of Lemon USA, and 8 drops of Spearmint to this dram bottle and let it sit. Wow! This blend I think was the best! There was a great balance between the mint and lemon. We didn’t want the mint to overpower the lemon, which it can do easily.

I needed to make 1 oz of the fragrance blend for scrub testing, so I used the percentages to calculate how much I needed to blend enough for 1 oz.

Fragrance Blend in Weight for 1 oz
0.60 ounces Lemon Sugar Fragrance Oil
0.15 ounces Lemon Essential Oil, USA
0.25 ounces Spearmint Essential Oil

During my testing several of the staff fell in love with this fragrance blend, so I was able to persuade the New Products team to come up with pricing for this yummy blend! I currently have a price of $4.50 for 1 fl oz of the Jordan’s Mint Lemonade blend. We will release this blend shortly, so if you can’t wait you can blend it yourself. If you want us to blend this for you, check our New Products section.

Now the fragrance has been blended, we can work on making the scrub. Jordan is planning on using Grapeseed Oil as the oil in her scrub, so we just need to mix a scrub that meets our requirements. We started with 8 ounces of Grapeseed Oil and then I started adding sugar and stirring until I had a very thick sugar scrub. I ended up using 16 ounces of sugar, which means that our sugar and oil ratio is 2:1. This ratio is one of the easiest ratios to work with on sugar scrubs.

Weigh the oil into the mixing container. With recipes that you weigh like this, I like to add my fragrance oil to the fixed oils before I add the sugar. Now, add the sugar and stir thoroughly. Fill containers with mixed scrub. Stir the scrub mixture frequently while filling the jars to keep an evenly filled jar.

This recipe makes about 16 fluid ounces of sugar scrub. I used a 2 oz jar for my container and I filled 8 jars.

Lemonade Lip Scrub Recipe

Lemonade-Lip-Scrub-RecipeCracked, dry, flaky lips are unattractive and also irritating, and lip scrubs help prevent this, leaving your lips feeling smooth and silky!

Here’s my easy, inexpensive recipe for a yummy lemonade lip scrub. Caster sugar is usually used for baking, but normal sugar would be granulated sugar which is too coarse to use as an exfoliator and can cause the lips to bleed.

Caster sugar has smaller granules and is much more delicate and effective you can find caster sugar at your local grocery store though! Now onto the lemonade lip scrub recipe.

Lemonade Lip Scrub Recipe

Ingredients:

  • White Granulated Sugar
  • Grapeseed Oil
  • Lemon Sugar Fragrance Oil
  • Lemon USA Essential Oil
  • Spearmint Essential Oil
  • Container for mixing
  • Scale
  • Spoon
  • Transfer Pipettes
  • Containers and caps

Lemonade Lip Scrub Instructions

To make this lip food, you will need: a small amount of lemon juice, a teaspoon of petroleum jelly (original Vaseline), a small tin or jar, 4 teaspoons of caster sugar and two toothpicks

Firstly, gradually add the lemon juice to the caster sugar and mix with your provided toothpick until a thick gooey paste is formed…

Keep adding the lemon juice gradually! The lemon juice acts as a lip cleanser- the acid of the lemon kills the bacteria on the lips. It also tastes great too! Do not add too much lemon juice in one go! If you’ve added too much juice, just even it out with a couple more teaspoons of sugar. The sugar acts as an exfoliator to the lips, removing the dead skin.

The paste should look like this.

Now leave the paste to the side for a while. We need to heat our petroleum jelly in the microwave for about 2 minutes.

After two minutes in the microwave, the petroleum jelly should be liquid as shown above. The petroleum jelly acts as a moisturizer and gives your new soft lips a lovely polish!

Now pour the paste into the basin of petroleum jelly and mix with a couple of toothpicks. The paste will become runny again if you have noticed.

We don’t want runny paste! To re-thicken the paste, gradually add teaspoons of caster sugar.

And a little more lemon juice to add some flavour!

The paste should be a lot thicker than before as the petroleum jelly hardens, and should look like this. (shown above) Finally, pour your lip scrub into your tin/jar and you’re done!

Taa daaa! a long lasting, homemade, tasty lip scrub that can be used anytime and anywhere!
